A top ten moto finish for Marcel van Drunen in Dortmund

Marcel van Drunen of the Yamaha MVD Goldspeed Team has scored a top ten moto finish at round four of the German Supermoto Series in Dortmund. Beforehand Marcel had a lot of expectations of this race. The publicity for this race was perfect and a lot of strong riders were ready to do battle against each other. When Marcel arrived on the circuit he didn’t liked the track so much. There were a lot of corners on the asphalt and at some spots the riders were riding in the first or second gear. These spots made it difficult to overtake on the track in Dortmund.

The weekend started not that well for Marcel on Saturday. He couldn’t find his rhythm and set the 14th fastest time in qualifying.

In the first moto Marcel didn’t took a good start and had to come back trough the field. It was difficult to overtake and because of this Marcel waited for some mistakes of the riders in front of him. In the offroad part of the track he managed to make some passes stick. Finally he crossed the finish line in 15th position but after the finish he heard that he got a penalty because he went by a pion on the wrong side. Because of this he lost some place and was classified in 19th position.

His start in the second moto was a lot better and he managed to follow the riders in front of him. Marcel was riding a consistent race and when Thierry van den Bosch made a mistake he went by him and took over tenth position. Van den Bosch came back strong at the end of the race. Marcel was a little bit faster in the offroad section but van den Bosch took some time back on the asphalt. Marcel gave everything he had and finished the race in tenth position.

Marcel’s next race is round seven of the Dutch Open Championship Series at Holten on August 14th.
