Marcel van Drunen of the Yamaha MVD Goldspeed Team finished third overall at round two of the Belgian Championship Series at Bilstain last weekend. In the first moto he came back from ninth position to fifth position. In the second moto it took him some time before he moved into third position. He started to close down the gap on the two leaders. When one of them had a mechanical problem Marcel moved up a spot and finished in second position. In the superfinal he finished in second position as well.

The day in Bilstain started dramatically for Marcel. In time practice he struggled to find his rhythm and set the 11th fastest time. In the first moto he started in ninth position and managed to pass some riders during the race to finish in fifth position. In the second moto he started in sixth position. Marcel was riding his own race because it was difficult to pass on a track with mainly one line. He managed to work himself up to third position and started to close down the gap on the two leaders. At that moment he was riding the fastest lap times on the track. When one of the leaders got a problem with his front brake Marcel took over this position and finished the race in second position.
The superfinal got red flagged after five laps because Eddy Seel made a big crash and injured himself. When they restarted the race Marcel took a good start and went into the first corner in third position. It took Marcel two laps to pass Lionel de Ridder for second position. When he moved into second position the leader had already a gap of six seconds. Marcel tried to close down the gap but because he was riding the same pace as the leader he had to settle for second. In the closing stages of the race he lowered the pace and finished the race in second position.
Overall he finished in third position. Marcel’s next race will be round four of the German Championship Series in Dortmund on July, 10th.
